Timpoochee Trail

The Timpoochee Trail is a coastal pathway that runs 18.6 miles along the coast of South Walton County, Florida. It is one of the most scenic byways in the entire state and it essentially runs alongside County Highway 30A. The trail is named after Timpoochee Barnard, a Native American Chieftain from the Yuchi Tribe who helped the American government battle other indigenous populations in Florida, most notably the Creek Indians.

Best by Bike

The most exciting, yet leisurely and efficient way to see the entire length of the trail is definitely by bike. Of course, a 37-mile round trip excursion might only be reserved for those in proper condition to make this arduous trek in one day. However, any amount of physical activity on the Timpoochee Trail is time well spent. The trailhead starts near the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Dune Allen and it ends when it meets US Highway 98 near the master-planned beach community of Rosemary Beach. Along the way the trail meanders through inlet lakes, coastal forests, quaint beach communities and of course, plenty of sugary white sand.

Pit Stops Along Timpoochee Trail

It doesn’t matter whether you are walking, biking, skating or jogging along the Timpoochee Trail; everyone will want to make a pit stop every now and then to rest and take time to enjoy the scenery. Fortunately, there are plenty of places to visit throughout the length of the trail. In addition to the amazing beaches, the inlet lakes between the towns of Seagrove Beach and Seacrest offer more recreational activities such as canoeing and fishing. Since you may have worked up an appetite from such a long day outside, stop by Stinky’s Fish Camp for eclectic seafood dishes or visit The Perfect Pig at one of its two locations in Seagrove Beach and at the Gulf Place Town Center. When you arrive in Blue Mountain Beach, visit La Loba’s Bakery for some baked goods and then over to Blue Mountain Beach Creamery for some homemade ice cream.
